The contact form quietly stops emailing anyone and you find out from a customer who says they tried to reach you last month. Backups exist, except nobody has ever restored one, so nobody knows they are empty.
None of that is dramatic on the day it happens, which is exactly why it goes unnoticed until the recovery is expensive. Maintenance is the cheapest insurance a website has, and it is the first line every business cuts.

What is not included
Most maintenance disputes are scope disputes, so here is the other half of the contract in writing, before you sign rather than after.
- A redesign, or a new site on a new stack. That is a project, quoted separately.
- Building a new feature from scratch on the Basic or Standard tiers.
- Third-party costs: hosting, domains, licences, gateway fees. Billed at cost, no margin.
- Content you have not written yet. We publish it, we do not invent it.
- Marketing and SEO retainers. Different work, different page.
WordPress care, specifically
Most sites we are asked to take over are WordPress, and most arrive the same way: a theme two major versions behind, a dozen plugins doing the work of three, and an admin login shared with a developer who stopped replying in 2024. The first month is usually cleanup rather than features.

GST, SAC codes and TDS on maintenance invoices
Website design, development and maintenance fall under SAC 998314, information technology design and development services, inside chapter 9983. GST is 18%, and every invoice carries our GSTIN, the SAC code and a sequential number, so a registered business can claim input tax credit without chasing us for a corrected copy.
TDS on technical and professional services is commonly deducted under section 194J, but the rate depends on how the vendor is classified, so take the deduction from your CA rather than from an agency website. AMC stands for annual maintenance contract. In practice it is one of the monthly tiers below, billed for a year instead of month to month, usually at a small discount for paying up front. The work is the same: updates, backups, monitoring, security patching and a bucket of changes each month.
How much does website maintenance cost per month in India?
Between ₹2,000 and ₹5,000 a month for a simple brochure site, ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 for an active business site or small store, and ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 or more for e-commerce and web apps. What moves the number is your platform, your traffic, and how quickly you need someone to pick up the phone when something breaks.
Do you maintain a site your team did not build?
Yes, and it is most of this work. We start with a free audit of what is there: what is out of date, what is exposed, whether backups exist and whether they restore. You get that findings list whether or not you sign anything.
